Looking back at these images from Mata and Phil’s wedding our hearts skip a beat because during these moments we travel back in time, mentally at least, and we get to relive an amazing experience from a very different wedding we had the pleasure of documenting this summer. Mata and Phil’s wedding celebrations took place in an organic vineyard in the amazing location of Agreco Farm, in Crete. This rural and minimalist wedding theme was a perfect fit to both this chic couple and also the wedding location they chose. Mata and Phil wanted their guests to indulge into everything that means Greek hospitality, local cuisine and of course, good local wine! So, choosing this organic farm a few minutes away from picturesque Chania was only natural.
Crete is one these islands in Greece where each town has each own character. Chania are well known for their picturesque port and the views they offer to visitors and who can disagree with that? 16th century architecture and a very iconic centre make Chania stand out from other areas of the island.
Our couple chose to hold their wedding celebrations in a vineyard not far away from the central city but welcome their guests to immerse in this local experience. The ceremony took place in the vineyard, in front of a little church. Guests were sat amidst olive groves to witness Mata and Phil exchange their vows. It was a rather emotional moment in the day for our couple. Mata got ready in her hotel suite along with her bridal party, wearing matching robes and opening champagnes! What a fun morning this was! When the bride put on her wedding dress, a white gown that was simple but very elegant she was glowing. Mata was so happy she started swirling around in the room with her dress and we could not but capture the moment every little girl dreams of: wearing her Monique Lhuillier wedding dress!
Minutes after being Mr and Mrs our couple had their photography session, in the vineyard, around the olive groves and even around the iconic alleys were stone walls were the perfect background. Returning for their reception, the organic farm was transformed in a very cosy scenery where string lighting hanging among trees made the atmosphere a lot more festive. The bride had envisioned that the wedding theme would incorporate what is local and that is why fuchsia bougainvillea was the main flower used for the decorations. Guests enjoyed a gourmet dinner with local produce and even tried wine from the vineyard!
It was not long before the first few songs that the party started and we saw everyone showing some serious dance moves. Mata and Phil were dancing all night, even tried traditional Cretan dances, with their wedding guests joining in. There was a lot of dancing, a lot of smiles and a lot of love on that evening in Crete. If you are considering having your wedding in an unconventional location while you are on an island but not necessarily dream of a wedding by the sea, look for alternatives like this one. We guarantee you will love it and your guests will remember it!
