When we met Nick and Jehan the love was all around them. You could not miss the excitement, the raw happiness of being engaged and planning their future as Mr and Mrs.
Nick planned a surprise proposal on a yacht in Mykonos, which you will see more of in our next posts, and Jehan said the big yes! So what better way to celebrate their engagement than arranging their photography session in Athens too. We were there to capture these lovebirds as they wandered in the most picturesque area of the historic city center: Anafiotika. Anafiotika is a little area with white washed houses and colourful plants, much resembling a Cycladic island just underneath the Acropolis.
Residents form Anafi island that moved to Athens wanted to be reminded of their home, so they made this neighborhood as a replica to their island. You need to lose yourselves in the white washed houses, the alleys full of pebbles and garden plants and you will immediately feel you are wandering in an island far away from the center!
We had an amazing full day engagement session with Jehan and Nick and toured around Athens creating beautiful imagery for them to share with their families and friends back home in the US. When couples chose Greece as their wedding destination, Athens hardly comes to mind as a romantic destination – especially the city center. Who would have thought that you can have some of the most unique engagement photos taken walking around Aeropagitou Street, Zappeion and of course underneath the Parthenon?
Look at the full gallery from Jehan and Nick’s morning in Athens center and you will believe us! Our day started with the happy couple and some photos around the historical Acropolis, Dionisiou Aeropagitou Street and Plaka. The center was tranquil and peaceful during the morning hours and the light was just brilliant. Jehan looked stunning in her white cocktail dress and Nick was the ultimate dapper tourist in the city center.
Walking around Plaka area, gazing the colourful bougainvillea, enjoying their morning coffee at the cozy café on the steps underneath the Parthenon was the perfect way to start off this engagement session. We kept on walking around Plaka and with a random turn we took we found ourselves in a little island. The white houses, the narrow alleys, the gardens full of flowers made them wonder whether we were still in Athens or elsewhere. Of course we are talking about Anafiotika area – a neighbourhood bringing so much contrast into the urban scenery. Jehan and Nick had the opportunity to explore this part of Athens and completely fell for.
We took some candid shots of the couple and made our way towards Herodeion as the sun went down. The marble steps, the orange sky and the olive trees around were the most suitable background for this evening engagement session. The couple looked so in love and our film captured their intimate moments as they were – real and special.
