7 + 1 Things to Do with Your Wedding Photographs
What I like about photographs is that they capture a moment that’s gone forever, impossible to reproduce. ―
We often ask our couples what are they doing with their wedding photographs and shockingly enough a lot of them simply store their wedding photos on their computers. However, having spent time, money and effort your wedding photographs, they should be put out in the world to see how wonderful your wedding day was. If you’re wondering what to do with your wedding photos, it turns out you have lots of options, from sharing them on social media to displaying them in various ways in your home. We recommend finding the way to display your photos shortly after receiving them—if you wait too long, you might get busy and never take the time to organize them.
Curious? Here’s exactly what to do with your wedding photos.
Organize your photos
We always create sub-galleries for our clients but we always advise them to create folders of their favorites for easy reference. You and your spouse can each create your folders of favorite images, or create separate folders for different types of photos such as “photos with family” “couple portraits” or “guest photos.” Keep copies of all of your photos in the original folders we sent, just in case.
Share your favorite photos on social media
The most obvious thing to do with your images is to share them on social media. However, we recommend taking a breath and organizing your images first. Share a few of your favorite images on Instagram and a bigger album on Facebook. You don’t have to share all of your wedding images at once—you can post images from your big day on special occasions and anniversaries throughout the year!
Back up your photographs
Before you decide what to do with your wedding photos, you’ll need to make sure they’re in a safe place. Save them on your computer and be sure to back them up with a cloud service, such as Dropbox, Google Drive, Amazon Drive, or iCloud Immediately after downloading your photos from your photographer’s online gallery. Be extra sure with saving them in an external hard drive because you never know when a computer issue might cause you to lose files, the more places you can save your precious wedding images, the better!
Use them to create unique gifts.
Using your favorite wedding photos to create beautiful gifts could be a thing and help cure you of the struggle to figure out what to buy your friends and family for their next birthday or special occasion? Coffee mugs, a personalized calendar full of family photos from your big day or other picture bearing gifts are the perfect idea for quick and fun birthday gifts!
Display them in your home.
Your wedding photos are little works of art. We recommend decorating your walls and shelves, with framed images from your wedding. We always recommend to our couples to create a gallery wall with favorite wedding photos and put framed photos throughout your house. Yay for using all the frames you got as wedding gifts!
Get them published or featured on wedding blogs
We love getting published as photographers and even though we tackle our submissions to wedding blogs and magazines, we love when couples suggest a wedding blog they would like to be featured in! Your photographs could inspire other soon to be married couples the same way other people inspired you and help you relive your wedding magic for the years to come!
Use your photos to create a thank-you note stationery with them
Featuring your wedding photos on your thank-you note stationery is one of the best things to do with your wedding photos. Putting your images on the thank you note is a lovely and very personal way of saying thank you for all the gifts you received. You can work with online stationers like Shutterfly or with your graphic designer.
Feature your favorite photo on your holiday cards
The year of your wedding is a great time to start if you and your spouse have never sent holiday cards before. Your favorite wedding photo could be the cover of your holiday card to wish all your family and friends a happy holiday season! Work with an online stationery brand or your favorite graphic designer to create meaningful holiday cards featuring your wedding pics!
Wedding photographs are mementos of your love and the decision to spend forever together so don’t bury them on your computer. Use them as much as you can and keep your favorite one hanged on a wall you see every day. This way you’ll think of your love when times are hard or when times are happy! Get your creativity going!
